Because of its unique geographical location, there are a large number of tungsten mines and huge tungsten reserves in China, and the major overseas powers also have a great demand for this strategic resource, but because of their lack of resources, they have to import to China to maintain the operation of their domestic industry.

However, even if my country's tungsten has a near-monopoly resource advantage in the world, it cannot be "pivotal" in the eyes of various countries and is still in an awkward position. Why?

It is necessary for us to have a simple understanding of tungsten.

Therefore, tungsten is often used in the manufacture of filaments and other daily products, but at the same time tungsten is also an important part of contemporary high-tech new materials, special alloys, electronic optical materials, etc., all need a certain amount of tungsten, and in communication technology, optics In the fields of equipment, mechanical processing, national defense and military, aerospace and other fields, tungsten is also widely used.

In the high-end manufacturing industry, tungsten is scarce and irreplaceable, and even has strategic significance.

In fact, tungsten has long been in the military field.

As early as World War II, the major participating countries would add tungsten to the penetrator. At that time, the famous tiger tank added tungsten carbide to the core of the penetrator, which improved its hardness, density and storage capacity.

Nowadays, artillery shells, large-caliber barrels, aircraft carriers and other armaments are inseparable from the participation of tungsten. It can be said that if a country does not have tungsten, the development of its various industries will be curbed.

It is such an important strategic resource. There are many in our country. This kind of abundance is not only a little more, but also a kind of "crushing".

In fact, many of my country's tungsten is exported. Some people may think that since tungsten has such a high strategic value and my country has such huge resources, why should it be exported and applied to various major fields of the country to strengthen its own strength. Isn't it better?

In fact, it is not that our country does not want to, but that there is no matching technology.

In the early years, under the leadership of the United States, European and American countries imposed a technical blockade on my country for decades, and my country's scientific and technological development was also suppressed. In the application and development of tungsten, there was no higher technical data in the field. It can only be applied to low-end industries.

When sitting on the "golden mountain" but not enough, how to make tungsten play a greater value? Naturally, it is sold to others!

As a result, China began to export tungsten, but at this time there is a serious problem-lack of technology.

Due to the lack of technology, we cannot produce high-tech finished products and sell them to other countries. We can only carry out simple processing or finishing on the basis of the original tungsten ore and sell them to other countries.

Although simple rough machining can be sold at will, it is relatively cheap; although finishing can sell at a higher price, it is time-consuming and laborious. Previously, China exported tungsten, mostly rough machining products, and less finishing products. The structure of export products is unreasonable, so the profit is also much worse.

Faced with this problem, some people may think, anyway, we have a near-monopoly advantage, why not increase the value of raw materials, sell tungsten more expensive, or simply not sell it to block the "lifeblood" of other countries "?

This is not impossible, but we are still losing money. After all, the wool comes from the sheep. If our country raises the price of raw materials, the price of medium and high-end finished products produced in other countries will also rise accordingly, and even the price will be higher. To counter the price increase of raw materials in our country, we have to hold our noses to buy high-end finished products from other countries because there is no technology.

However, when consumers know that businesses will not increase prices, they will naturally not pay too much attention to it. This also leads to the embarrassing position that my country's tungsten has a near-monopoly resource advantage in the world, but it is not valued by other countries.

Of course, this problem is not without solutions.

China only needs to reduce the export volume of rough processing products and increase the export volume of fine processing products to effectively improve the current situation. It would be better to monopolize the whole industrial chain from raw materials to terminal finished products.

For example, if China has the mechanical technology of Germany and Japan, it can make better products and form a complete industrial chain. At this time, the tungsten provided to other countries will be cut off. If the other party has no raw materials, it is difficult for a skillful woman to cook without rice. After that, the pricing power of the industry will probably be in the hands of our country, China's industry will also get more attention from other countries.

At present, we also have the intention in this respect. From 2012 to 2016, the export volume of carbide and tungsten wire in China decreased and the export volume of tungsten alloy products increased. All these show that we have started to optimize the export product structure of tungsten and enhance the international competitiveness of tungsten.

In 2019, China announced to all countries that the total amount of important resources such as tungsten ore and rare earth will be limited in the future. The notice indicates that the state will carry out more strict control over such strategic resources, and no organization, individual or unit can carry out production beyond the plan.

This is our country for the development of the tungsten industry to pave the way, only to control the quality of export products, the number of external output, strengthen the control of internal resources, so that our country can free up hands to conduct in-depth research on tungsten.

And presumably in the near future, as my country's science and technology continues to overtake in corners, related technologies will inevitably be developed to apply tungsten to more high-end fields, coupled with my country's huge tungsten reserves, it will be able to achieve the entire industrial chain in the future. Control, in order to block the "neck" of the fate of European and American countries, the tungsten industry will be up to us!

Key words:

Why is China's tungsten in an awkward position when it has a global monopoly on resources but is constrained everywhere?
